Elwood, Nebraska

 

Jesse L. Carbaugh, age 88, of Cozad, Nebraska, formerly of Elwood, Nebraska passed away on Monday, March 31, 2008 at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington, Nebraska. He was born on January 8, 1920 in Gosper County, Nebraska to Johnnie & Daisy (Morgan) Carbaugh.

He attended two different rural Gosper County schools before coming to Elwood High School and graduating with the class of 1939. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and later graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce. On May 26, 1945 he married Genevieve L. Prebyl at St. Paul's Methodist Church, in Lincoln, Nebraska. They made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska until 1970. They would then move to Elwood, Nebraska and remained there until 2006, with recent residences in Lincoln, Nebraska and currently have been at Meadowlark Point, in Cozad, Nebraska.

He began his banking career at National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln and then continued at First National Bank, of Elwood, Nebraska where he served as executive vice president from 1970 until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of Optimist Club & Elks Club, of Lincoln, Nebraska. In Elwood, he served as President of Elwood Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club member, honorary member of Elwood Family Career and Community Leaders of America. He helped with the development of the Elwood Care Center & Elwood Senior Center. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, of Elwood, Nebraska.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers James, Morgan, Edgar, & Melvin, & 1 sister Luella.

He is survived by his wife: Genevieve L. Carbaugh of Cozad, Nebraska

                                   Son: Gary & wife Renee Carbaugh of Lincoln, Nebraska

                        Daughters: Sharon & husband Robbie Oelkers of Elwood, Nebraska

Viewing & visitation will be Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 9 AM till 8 PM at Elwood Funeral Home, Elwood, Nebraska and prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be Friday, April 4, 2008 at 1 PM at the First United Methodist Church, in Elwood, Nebraska with Pastor Connie Karr, officiating. Interment will be at the Elwood Cemetery, Elwood, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Elwood, Nebraska or the family.
