Iris I. Evans, age 82, of Elwood, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska. She was born on November 21, 1926 in Gosper County, Nebraska to Oren and Inez (Whisler) McKenzie.
She attended rural grade school north of Elwood, Nebraska and graduated from Elwood High School with the class of 1944. After graduation, she taught for one year and then worked as a telephone operator in Lexington, Nebraska until she married in 1949. On January 16, 1949, she married Bill Evans at the First Christian Church in Elwood, Nebraska. They farmed for many years in the Elwood area. Her husband passed away on February 20, 1999. In 2003, she moved into the Elwood Care Center. She was a life long member of the First Christian Church, of Elwood, Nebraska. Active member of the Christian Women's Fellowship of Elwood and volunteered for the American Cancer Society for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Harriet Evans, brothers Jack & Dale McKenzie.
She is survived by sons Dennis & wife Kay Evans of Elwood, Nebraska
Norman & wife Cynthia Evans of Elwood, Nebraska
Terry & wife Marlene Evans of Smithfield, Nebraska
Kelly & wife Mary Evans of Sublette, Kansas
Daughter: Beverly & husband Mike Dyer of Crawford, Nebraska
Sister: Gail Willson of Kearney, Nebraska
Grandchildren: 11 Great-Grandchildren: 7

Viewing & visitation will be Thursday, January 22 from 2 PM till 8 PM at First Christian Church, Elwood, Nebraska with family present from 5 PM till 7 PM. Funeral services will be Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2 PM at the First Christian Church, in Elwood, Nebraska with Pastor Linda Newman, officiating. Interment will be at Elwood Cemetery, Elwood, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church & Elwood Care Center, of Elwood, Nebraska or the donor’s choice.
