Elwood, Nebraska

Raleigh D. Nott, age 90, of Elwood, Nebraska died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska.  He was born December 15, 1918 at Elwood, Nebraska to Elias, better known as Lyle, and Amalia (Huckfeldt) Nott.

Raleigh was a life long resident of Gosper County, Nebraska.  He graduated from Elwood High School with the Class of 1937.  Following graduation he helped with the construction of Johnson Lake and canal.  He enlisted in the US Army on February 18, 1942 and served till September 16, 1945, receiving a Bronze Star. He married Eleanor Schneider on November 30, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis, Nebraska.  They farmed & raised cattle South of Elwood for many years. They moved to Elwood in 1994.  Raleigh served at Gosper County Commissioner from 1971 until 1988.  He was one of  the founding Fathers for the Gosper County Senior Center. He moved to Elwood Care Center in September of 2007. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, VFW Post #290 and American Legion Post, all of Elwood, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Sharol  in 1959, Brother Lyle Wayne Nott and two Sisters:  Wilma Tull and Carol Jean Nott.

                         4 Sons:  Jerry Nott of Grand Island, Nebraska
                                       Norman Nott and wife Janet of Grand Island, Nebraska
                                       Billy Nott and wife Char of Arapahoe, Nebraska
                                        Raleigh Nott of Johnson Lake, Nebraska
                        Grandchildren:  9

Viewing and visitation will be Monday, July 20, 2009 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood from 4 PM until 8 PM and prior to services on Tuesday at the church.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Jeff Ernstmeyer, officiating.  Burial will be in Elwood Cemetery with Military Honors at graveside.  Elwood Funeral Home of Elwood, Nebraska in charge of services.
