Elwood, Nebraska

Evelyn Louise Fox, age 86, of Elwood, Nebraska died on April 24, 2011, at Tri County Hospital, in Lexington, Nebraska. She was born on July 11, 1924 near Plato, Iowa to Charles & Minnie (Parsons) Taylor

Her childhood was shared with her older brother and younger sister. She was very much fashioned after her Mother, with a petite frame and quiet manner.

Her elementary years were spent in country schools, high school found her in Tipton, Iowa.  After graduation she went on to Iowa State College at Ames, Iowa. She graduated from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics Education and really enjoyed being part of the chorus at college.

A courtship materialized during college with Wesley Fox, and they were married Dec. 21, 1947.  That marriage lasted the next 63 years.  Evelyn taught Home Economics before God began to bless the marriage with four boys. She and Wesley became mentors for their grandchildren in later years. After living in the Ankeny, Iowa area, the couple moved to Postville, IA in the early 50’s, from there to Cozad, NE in 1971, then to Colby, Kansas in the late 70’s.  In 1987 they returned to Nebraska at Johnson Lake.

Evelyn enjoyed all domestic duties especially cooking, sewing and gardening.  She liked to read and taught Sunday school in the Presbyterian churches at Colby, KS and Lexington, NE.  She also served as President of the United Presbyterian Women in Colby and Treasurer of her women’s circle in Lexington. During the 70’s while Wesley was traveling, she managed the kitchen at Southview Manor in Cozad, Nebraska.

Evelyn thoroughly loved making dishes and treats from her kitchen to give away to others.  She was known for her fabulous cooking and liked to make pies for people and spoil the grandkids with wonderful cookies.

The fellowship of fabulous meals, Evelyn’s laughter, and her business of the household will be missed by all who had the true pleasure of knowing and loving this humble lady of faith.

Evelyn is survived by 3 sons, Ryan Fox & wife Sally of Montrose, Colorado, Kenneth Fox of Johnson Lake, NE, Wallace Fox of Johnson Lake, NE; a brother, Max Taylor of Mechanicville, Iowa; a sister, Doris Weist of Rochester, Minnesota;

Daughter-in-law Diane Fox of Johnson Lake, Nebraska
